Course Description:

The accurate and detailed investigation of accidents and incidents is essential to the health and well-being of all workers at a workplace. Such an investigation can help to ascertain the cause of an accident, incident or near miss and help to prevent a recurrence.

AODA - Accessibility of Ontarians with Disabilities Act

Course Outline:

This program explains the purpose and scope of the Act, discusses the responsibilities of people
and organizations under the Act, and lists recommended principles and relevant information for
communicating and interacting with people with disabilities. As of January 1st, 2012, legislation was put in place that requires all business and organizations providing goods and services to the Ontario public abide by several legal requirements, including:

  • Establishing policies and procedures to assist persons with disabilities
  • Develop modes of communication
  • Create procedures for all staff to follow when dealing with the public specific to the requirements set out by the AODA

Asbestos Awareness

Course Description:

The Asbestos Awareness course is intended for anyone who may come across asbestos in their normal line of work, or anyone who works in a facility where asbestos may be present. It is intended to increase worker knowledge regarding asbestos, and to reduce the hazard of accidental exposure. It is not intended for those people in the asbestos remediation or removal business, as they require substantial additional training. Asbestos must be inhaled in order to be a health hazard; there has been no evidence to suggest that ingestion will cause any ill effects. There are several diseases associated with asbestos exposure. It is important to be aware of the health risks associated with asbestos exposure when asbestos may be present in the work place.

Course Description:

Chemicals are found in every conceivable workplace – from construction sites to office buildings, to mine sites and repair shops. As exposure to chemicals may produce serious consequences, it is important that people be educated about the hazards. This Chemical Hazards course will give users an understanding of basic chemical principles and terms, the hazards associated with various broad classes of compounds, and the dangers of inappropriate storage and mixing of incompatible materials.

Course Description:

NORCAT’s Confined Space Awareness Internet based training program delivers essential knowledge to any worker who may work around confined spaces. The hazards that exist and that are met when entering and working in a confined space are capable of causing injury, illness and death. Often accidents occur because a hazard goes unrecognized. In effect, the confined space is a hazard, and must be treated as such. When working around a confined space it is necessary to be aware of the dangers that exist in and around the confined space area. By using NORCAT’s Confined Space Awareness program you will be helping to educate your employees in the safe practices when working around confined spaces. In addition, the Confined Space Awareness program can be used as an introduction to confined space entry practical training.

Course Description:

Confined spaces are high risk areas that can be found just about anywhere. Therefore it is essential that people entering confined spaces be aware of what a confined space is and the precautions necessary to enter the confined space to do work. This Confined Space Entry course will inform users of potential confined spaces and why they are such a concern. It will explain relevant legislation including employer and worker responsibilities, potential hazards associated with entering a confined space, the importance of atmospheric testing, and engineering and administrative hazard controls. This course is based upon the Ontario guidelines for confined space entry. However, this course covers only the theory of confined space entry; practical training must be completed before entry into any confined space.

Course Description:

The General Safety Awareness (GSA) program provides work guidelines that employees should know and follow. The program highlights rules of conduct, personal protective equipment, personal hygiene, and safe work practices. In particular, workers are introduced to the proper techniques and practices for lifting heavy objects, painting and staining, grooming landscapes, operating power tools, using gaspowered equipment, working with ladders, confined space awareness, handling hazardous materials, fueling machinery, and maintaining personal hygiene. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that every reasonable precaution is taken to protect a worker. However, it must be realized that it is the worker’s responsibility to act with due diligence in all work situations.

Course Description:

By law, you have the right to know what hazards might exist in your office workplace and how to avoid injury when working around them. Workplace accidents most often occur when people take unnecessary risks, are not paying attention to what they are doing and/or not following standard working procedures. By not jeopardizing the health and safety of fellow workers, obeying all safety procedures and reporting any incidents, nearly all common work-related accidents can be prevented. This training program will inform you of many useful safe work practices in an office setting, help you to recognize potentially dangerous situations at your workplace and teach you how to react to such situations in a responsible manner.

Course Description:

All workers have the right to know what hazards exist in their workplace, and the right to refuse work if they believe that conditions are unsafe or if they believe they do not have adequate personal protection. NORCAT’s Safe Work Practices program will inform workers about the proper personal protective equipment required to do a job, the safety guidelines necessary for dealing with specific workplace situations and hazards, and how to safely handle, maintain, and operate hand tools.

Course Description:

Course Description:

Toxicology is one of the oldest fields of study in science and involves the detection, effects, and antidotes of poisons. All substances are poisonous in the right amount, with the effects being dependent on the dose. This Toxicology course will give users an understanding of what constitutes a poison, the ways these substances enter the body and the effects they have on the body, and how the toxicity of a substance is measured.
