The role of the Heavy Duty Mechanic is to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of heavy mining equipment by performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs as required. This position is responsible for diagnosing and addressing mechanical issues, ensuring all work is conducted safely and in accordance with industry standards and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance: Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections on underground heavy equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Identify and diagnose mechanical issues in heavy equipment, using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to pinpoint malfunctions and minimize downtime.
Repairs & Overhauls: Conduct repairs and component overhauls on underground equipment, including engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and braking systems, ensuring all work is completed to manufacturer specifications.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while performing maintenance and repairs, ensuring a safe work environment for yourself and your team.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, and inspections performed. Complete detailed reports on equipment status, repairs conducted, and parts used.
Operational Efficiency: Collaborate with the operations and maintenance teams to ensure minimal disruption to production schedules by performing timely and efficient repairs.
Use of Tools & Equipment: Safely operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment required for the repair and maintenance of heavy underground machinery.
Qualifications
Journeyperson Red Seal Mechanic.
Underground experience an asset.
SAP or similar CMMS experience an asset.
Microsoft Office program operation and application skills.
Caterpillar and Maclean experience an asset.
Sandvik drill experience an asset.
Ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems.
Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
