Applicants must be a full-time student in the 2017-18 school year at a secondary school, College, University or other educational institution and be returning to school full-time for the 2018-19 academic year. If successful, proof of school attendance will be required.
Most positions are approximately 15 weeks duration, from May 22 – August 31.

Qualifications:
- Candidates must be able to attend and complete mandatory safety training
- Work out of doors in a range of climate conditions
- Have good interpersonal skills, be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Be willing to work weekends if required. Some weekend rotations will be required
- Ability to lift and carry up to 45 lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. occasionally
- Working knowledge of lawn maintenance, and grass cutting equipment
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Perform repetitive lifting and twisting for long periods of time
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time
- Hours are up to 40 hours per week subject to operational requirements
- A valid driver’s license (minimum G2) in good standing is also required
- Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Boaters card would be considered and asset
- Excellent customer service skills & interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with the public diplomatically
- All applicants must be available to work the entire duration of the term
Duties:
Summer student positions are responsible for various maintenance tasks including flowers and shrubs, mowing and trimming, ball diamonds, washrooms, litter and waste collection, and other maintenance activities with the Roads, Water and Wastewater and Parks and Cemetery Divisions. Subject to work group assignment, you may be required to operate a range of vehicles and equipment such as tractors, riding lawn mowers, pick-up trucks, string trimmers and a variety of hand tools.
