Job Description: 

Key Responsibilities are (but not limited to):

  • Follow the Lac Seul First Nation Dog By-Law and the Zero Tolerance Community Notice
  • Capture and remove all stray animals and/or where Prohibited.
  • Investigate reports of animal attacks or dog bites.
  • Submit reports as required to the Lac Seul Police Service in emergencies.
  • Work with other Animal Control Officer(s) to assist with difficult captures.
  • Examine dog licenses for validity and issue warnings or fines to delinquent owners.
  • Share relevant information with other Animal Control Officer(s) and the Director of Emergency Services.
  • Administer immediate first aid or transport to the veterinary clinic for further care.
  • Transport animals to other agencies for adoption/rehoming.
  • Provides care of animals in custody, including feeding/watering, and observing and reporting health and behavior conditions.
  • Performs work in a safe, efficient, and courteous manner.
  • Exercises independent judgment in the field.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 10 or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number and legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant legislation.
  • Must have a valid Ontario Class G Driver`s License.
  • Must have First Aid/ CPR or be willing to obtain it.
  • Basic computer and office skills are an asset. Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
  • Willing to attend mandatory training for the role.
  • Good physical condition, strength, and agility are required for all aspects of the A.C.O position, including long amounts of time spent driving, handling, and lifting animals, including deer, large dogs, and heavy gear.
  • Understanding the animal behavior in domestic and wildlife species and the ability to handle and capture a wide variety of animals, including injured and possibly dangerous animals, utilizing humane capture tools, equipment, and techniques.
  • Required to be immunized against rabies.
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number and legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant legislation
